HI, I'M MAX
Creative Puzzler of the Alphabet
Born in Roeselare, soaked in purebred West-Flemish values, agile with a ball, fluent with a ballpoint pen, educated in Kortrijk and Leuven, lawyered up, Solvay-ed it down, lived in Brussels, moved to Ghent, worked at an Airline company, quit my job, moved to Portland (Maine) with the one I love, and started writing. A West-Flemish vox with a Maxima Cum Laude in Dutch and English. Cui Bono?

MY WORK
A short overview.
I write both in Dutch and in English, preferably the latter. I usually write about one of the following topics: legal, travel, lifestyle, book reviews, cover letters and professional correspondence. However, I'm open to other challenges as well!

BEHIND THE LAPTOP
The Odyssey
My name is Maxim Philippe Albéric Van Eeckhout, commander of the one-man-business Vox Maxima, a citizen of Ghent, a lawyer in mind, writer at heart. And I will help your cause, in this life or the next. Okay, enough with the wannabe movie references.
I’m characterised by 108 seasons of joy, warmth, laughter and sorrow. Often distressed, but mostly carefree, I spent most of my days protected by the status of ‘child’ and ‘student’. Back in the day, the common denominators were ‘imagination’ and ‘energy’, followed, at a later stage, by the heavy loaded terms ‘responsibility’ and ‘ambition’. But soon adulthood struck, choices were to be made, and we waved our childhood fantasies goodbye. On the metropolitan crossroads of opportunities, as we experience them today, the directions are endless. Both comforting and terrifying at the same time. I took the crossing that was best in line with my education, a Management Traineeship at a renowned Belgian company. “Finally, I was heading somewhere”, I reassured myself. It felt normal and expected. Like you just wrote the title to your dissertation, saved it, and then directed your attention elsewhere. Content with taming the beast of confrontation for one more day. Well, at least that's what I thought I was doing. I quickly acknowledged that this metaphorical beast wasn't up for the expected, nor the normal, and it wasn't willing to surrender.
Like a modern-day Odysseus I, too, am driven by subliminal passions; passions that were present since I was young, and have never abandoned me since; not even when I was pursuing the conventional path of career-ship and wage-hood. So, eventually, when opportunity struck, and without further ado, I quit my job and decided to give writing a shot. At least for now.
